StoveTrace is a cloud-based remote monitoring system for improved cookstoves in rural households.
StoveTrace monitors frequency of stove use, duration of each use and uses climate science to derive fuel consumption based on the temperature data. Utilizing cellular or GPRS networks, the temperature data is uploaded to a server. Sensors can run indefinitely when connected to main power or solar panels.Interview with representative
StoveTrace was developed to:
– Provide cookstove manufacturers and distributors with near real-time information about how stoves are used;
– Facilitate interventions that adjust to and follow up on the use patterns of homes and communities;
– Enable payments to rural households via carbon markets and climate funds to subsidize and encourage improved stove use.
