The oil press expels oil by the application of pressure to seeds inside a cylinder and cage by means of a piston and a system of levers. Under the pressure built in the cage the seeds release oil. To operate the machine a handle is used to press the seeds. One requirement of operation of the oil press is that the oil pressing process should be continuous from the beginning to end.

The machine is designed to be portable and to be repaired locally.
